Start paying attention to your boss’s communication style and preferences. Here are a few questions to determine your boss’s preferred communication style:
Is Your boss a listener or a reader? (Does your boss prefer telephone/ face-to-face or email)?
Does your boss like to make small talk or is your boss primarily task-focused?
Does your boss like details or just the highlights?
